Go to college and get a Journalism degree. Many anchor-people have communications degrees, but I think those who have J degree's do better.

While you're in school, get on air at your college station. Try and get as much face time as you can. From there you'll intern at a television station during the summer. Try and get more than one internship during your college career (get one at a major network show like Dateline and one at a local TV station). While on your internship, go out in the field with the reporters as much as possible. Learn how to edit, write and use the newsroom software. Tape fake news reports, be nice to everyone you meet, and get contact info!

While doing all this, save your best real/fake reports, put them together, and start applying at small market TV stations. Use the contacts you met during your internship to see if someone can recommend you. You'll be set after that step.
