I am almost 6 weeks pregnant and have some brownish discharge. Is this a sign of a miscarriage or is this normal? I already have an appointment for the Dr. later this week, but I wanted to know if anyone else had the same situation and when the result was.

thanks

This is such a tricky question to answer without alarming the asker.
You will have some people telling you ti is totally normal, and they had spotting throughout their pregnancies.
My experience of bleeding throughout my 6 pregnancies is that the only time it happened I went on to have a miscarriage.
It started as a brownish discharge and over a period of 11 days gradually changed in colour and quantity. Until I went on to have a natural miscarriage at 12 weeks.
I hope to goodness this is not what you are experiencing.
Glad you are seeing the Dr later in the week, he will be more able to reassure you.

Miscarriage Symptoms
A miscarriage is the loss of a pregnancy before 20 weeks and it is nature's way of ending a pregnancy that is not developing normally. The length of the pregnancy will effect the number and severity of miscarriage symptoms.

A miscarriage that takes place shortly after conception can occur as a slightly late, slightly heavy period. Symptoms can vary from person to person, but there are common ones that generally occur:

Bleeding. This can range from brownish spotting to heavy bleeding. It is important to note that many women experience spotting or bleeding during pregnancy and about 50% of the time, the pregnancy progresses normally.
Pain or cramping in the lower abdominal area. The pain could be on just one side, both sides, or in the middle. You may also experience pain in the genitals, lower back, thighs, or buttocks.
You may notice that pregnancy symptoms like nausea and breast tenderness have subsided or lessoned. Be aware that some women do not notice any change in these symptoms, while others do.
Some women say that didn't "feel right" just prior to their symptoms.
If you are pregnant and experiencing symptoms you should contact your health care provider. If any of the following symptoms occur you should go the Emergency Room immediately:

Heavy bleeding
Passing clots or something that looks like tissue (bring the tissue to the hospital in a clean container)
A fever higher than 100.4 degrees F
Dizziness or fainting
A history of tubal (or ectopic) pregnancy
Severe vomiting
Severe pain the abdomen or back
If you have any uncertainty about the need to contact your health care provider, call him or her immediately.

I had brown discharge at 11 weeks and i called my doctor and they said that it was normal but then it kept on for about 1 week then it lead to alot of bleeding like worse than a period so i thought that i miscarried so i went to the ER and they said that everything was fine that it could of been a freak thing they told me that they couldnt tell me what happend becuase they didnt know.. So i had an Appt. on Jan 4 which i told my Doctor and he looked at everything (which the bleeding and brown dischrage stopped then) and he said everything looked great we listened to the Babys heartbeat and it was Healthy. I was soo Thankful. So then the day after i left the Doctors the Brown stuff came back and i was like okay well this is normal so 2 weeks pasted and i got worried so i called the doctor which they told me to come in on Jan 18 so i did and he checked me out again and he said that my cervix wasnt opend and that it wasnt coming from there he took the swab and looked at it underneath a micro. and came back into my room and told me that everything looked great. It stop again after 3 days after leaving there (thank goodness) I havent had it ever since then which it has been 3 weeks now. I have my next doctors appt next Thursday and i hope and pray that everything is GREAT.. We are finding out the Sex of my baby!!!! But good luck!! sorry this was so long ;)

Bleeding during pregnancy is considered "threatened miscarriage" meaning it may or may not happen. I started bleeding around 12 weeks w/ this one (bright red for one day, then turned to brown spotting). The doctor told me that I had been pregnant w/ twins and miscarried one of them. They were able to determine this from an ultrasound at 13 weeks. I bled for about a month and was so scared! I'm now 24 weeks, and everything is going great; I've had another ultrasound and the baby is fine and my uterine environment is good. I hope you don't miscarry, I have my fingers crossed for you ; )

I bled at 8 weeks pregnant. Everything ended up okay. But, I went to the ER with first sign of blood and I think you should see your doctor today. Why chance it?

It could be a miscarriage, that is true, but 50% of all women who have bleeding in their pregnancy go on to have healthy babies. And 20-30% of women have bleeding in the first trimester. Call your OB. They may get you in sooner to check.

that's not always a bad sign. It's a bad sign if it's bright red.

That happened to me with my first pregnancy at 9 weeks & everything turned out fine

Call your dr though and let them know

Sometimes they can just reabsorb the babies and go on with their lives. Not sure what signs you'll get. Might see some bloody show.

i would call your doctors office and talk to a nurse just to let them know what is going on. it is probably just old blood which sounds gross, but it happens. usually they only worry when it is bright red or pinkish. good luck!
