A battle in ancient greece between, I believe, the spartans and the persians. The title comes from the amount of men the spartans had. The persians (or whoever the enemy is) had a few thousand.

It's a based off a graphic novel by Frank Miller (Sin City, Robocop 2 and 3). It tells the story of 300 Spartans that fight against Thousands of Persians to the death for their freedom. It's based off a true story, but Frank Miller has also said himself that some parts are a little fabricated or stretched out.

It based on Frank Miller's Graphic novel of the same name. Which in turn is based on the tale by Herodotus about the Spartans holding off Xerxes and the might of the Persian Empire, in the battle for Thermopylae by King Leonidas and his 300 personal bodyguard.

the movie is based on the spartans battling the persians with 300 soldiers. It was a graphic novel, much like "Sin City", and this movie is being made by the same people.
