in my 1994 mitsubishi expo when the brake is not on...then after awhile it shuts off...the guy at firestone said the brake fluid was dirty and a little low, but he couldn't just change it or add more in , he would have to check for a leak in the system first , and that would cost about $600...but when he dipped his finger in it and I drove away, it shut off...It did this again today and after warmed up , it shut itself off..

Go to the auto parts store, or walmart, and get some Dot 3 brake fluid and fill up the master cylinder. That should turn the light off. Check the fluid level after about a week, if the light stays off. Low fluid level should tell you if there is a leak.

do not pay any one $600.00 to do any brake work on your car..... this light is a check feature in the dash to tell you that the brake system is fine (( if I am wrong about this -- do the following>>>> go to the mitsu-dealer and talk to the service writer (those folks will help you understand what the true function of this ""red light"" does and if there is some malfunction or you need work on the car .... the discussion with the service writer is free .. you can take the car to someone of your choice to have the work done if it is necessary for corrective work ----- just be nice to the people that you talk to and you can learn more about the car and the costs of these repairs ----- the weather can effect many things about your car .... and WHEN was the last time you got new brake pads and shoes ??? It all fits together and one bad part can mess up some good parts .... live and learn....

yeah, it normally indicates some issue with the hydraulic fluid in the brake line (leak or blockage), but the guy seems to be playing his part to get some extra bucks.
Check another shop before paying the 600$, try a Mitsubishi one if u find it...

when that light comes on it normally means your low on brake fluid. take the car to a garage and have them check the brake fluid level. when they check it, watch them so you know where it is next time it need some additional fluid.
