i have an hp pavillion 6736 windows 2000 professional, i turned it on and suddenly windows 98 shows up and then the screen goes blank and shows c:// and there is nothing i can do , help what is this what do i do????

restart your computer. hit f8 or f12..it varies from computer to computer...to get to a menu so you can boot in safe mode. if you can't get this menu, you might have to reinstall windows. did you have 98 before? or is 98 on another partition or other hard drive? sounds like something happened to windows 2000. so reformatting will help, but it would be a last resort since you would lose all programs and files you had. you can always call hp and they should be able to help you. good luck!

Try typing in "cd windows" and hit the enter key after the "C:\>" cursor. You should see "C:\>WINDOWS" as a cursor. Then try typing "windows.exe" and hit the enter key. Windows should come up.
