I want to drop spanish badly, as it is nothing but stress for me really and a clogging of my schedule, but people have been telling me almost all colleges require it. Is it really that severe? I want to major in writing and communications, like directing movies and stuff when I get into college. Would language in High school really be that important?

I'm a sophomore by the way, so at the end of this year I'll have two credits.

I urge you to keep the foreign language class. Even at public universities is a language course required.
However, if you are planning on going to community college and then transferring, it is not required to to graduate.
Learning and retaining a foreign language is a very valuable skill that is highly sought after, if not required in today's workplace, but heck, I'm from California.
It's actually the process of learning a foreign language rather than the language itself that they expect you retain. It opens up dormant parts of the brain that had been used early on in life when you first developed your use of primary speech. The logic and reasoning you gain from learning a foreign language is absolutely neccessary for problem solving.
In short, yes it is bad for college admissions. If you're a communications directed person, you need to understand that you will be taking classes in college that don't even have t do with directing movies, yet. The lower division classes deal with communications, simply. And foreign language is a good beginning.

It depends on the college you are applying to. I know this much for certain, not having foreign language credits in high school will definitely close some doors for you. Even if all of you other grades are good, many colleges require 2 or more years of foreign language, (including many good schools for writing and communications, hello, that is language!)
Think this through carefully. It might have a bigger effect than you can guess.

YES, Stay in there...Some colleges require two semesters of foreign languages for an English Major....Easier in High School. May even be able to test out of some of it before hand...Some have trouble with Verbal Learning so be tested for this...Latin is a written language and is easier for some to learn. It is more book friendly.....Test and qualify....Good Luck....

In my school they say its required to have one Foreign language credit if you plan on attending college. I understand how you feel. Im in spanish right now and its well in one word "Hell". Just plain frustrating.
Unfortinately it is important to take the credit its not if you want to its just that you have to...
At least think of the bright side, You fail it now but when you retake it you can learn from your mistakes and plus now you actually have some prior knowledge of it.

It doesn't look good for college that you dropped anything. High school Spanish is much easier than college Spanish. You might as well get it over with now.

Depends on which school you go to. Some schools have a minimum language requirement to get in.
