I have an Eureka Altima vacuum - its only about two months old. I've noticed that at the bottom, where it sucks up all the dirt it's expelling dust into the air (as I feel a vacuum should not do this it makes me a little upset). I clean my vacuum regularly and I have no idea what could be causing my vacuum to do this! It has excellent suction picking up things off the floor - I just do not want MORE dust in my house!

Did I just get a worthless vacuum?

Not necessarily. Most vacs will kick back a small amount of dust.Check your manual to be sure that there are not several filters to clean.Contact Eureka. They are a huge company and want their customers to be happy.Be sure to change the bag when it reaches the 1/2 way line,or if it is bagless, empty the recptacle after every use.

I always thought that the only reasons a vacuum would do this is because the bag needed to be changed or something is clogging the hose.

Unless its filter is extremely dirty it should not be spitting dust out. If the filter is clean and everything is tight including wands, tools and the dirt cup and if you still have this problem take it back.

That really sucks when you buy something and it doesn't work right.
