Up until a certain age, perhaps, your life belongs to those adults around you, but at some point you need to take responsibility for your own life, where it is going, and what you want to do with it, and make your own choices about things that affect you.
Of course, there is only a small window to do so, because once you have children, your life belongs to them to some extent (although you should always retain a part of yourself and not become "just" a mother or wife, but rather be a woman - your own woman - who is also a mother or a wife).

When you are young this is true; the object of your youth is the give you the education and experience needed to make this choice. Once you reach adulthood your life is yours to live as you choose. That is not to say that there are not consequences to your decision, there are of course. The question then becomes do you have the courage to live your life in an original manner? Does the course mapped out by your parents and teachers make sense for you? If not change it! It will not be easy, since there are powerful forces acting on you to conform; but in the end the choice is yours if you have to will to make the decision and live with the results. Good luck!

It does belong to you. The only problem is not teachers and parents so much as it is law enforcement and jealous citizens.

Well, the truth is that you really can live your life the way your want to. It just doesn't happen very often. Most people are too scared to do that. It is a fairly radical stance to take.
Although if taken it can be your path to true freedom.
