If I say I am easily challenged, what does it mean? I thought it would mean that I am eager to compete, but my one friend told me there is a negative undertone to it. What do you say?

There are two potential meanings:

1) As you say, eager to compete - easily challenged to enter a competition of some sort.

The other more negative meaning would be:

2) Struggles to complete tasks - most tasks are challenging for someone.

My first thought was #2 - it definitely has a negative undertone to it.

To say that you are "challenged" can mean that you have difficulty with something - for instance, saying that someone is mentally challenged could be a polite way of saying they're not especially intelligent. If you want to say that you are eager to compete, then you might say that you "enjoy a challenge," which is a more positive way of expressing this idea.

I immediately thought it was a humorous way to describe someone stupid.

There's an EXTREMELY negative tone to it. DEFINITELY do not put it on a resume (or whatever).

A challenge is something that isn't easy
If something challenges you, you might be able to do it, but it's not a walk in the park
If it's easy to find things that challenge you, then that means there must be a lot of them, and you must not be very bright.

It means that you know you may be taking a chance as you go into the situation. You are aware that there may be some risk, some hazard, something not completely aboveboard, but you decide to do it anyway. The phrase "open your eyes" might be said by someone to a person who is foolishly not paying attention to the risk or danger of their situation. It is a warning to them.

From the way I read it ... "easily challenged" means a bit on the dumb side of the fence.

It means you find simple tasks challenging because you are not too bright.

Your friend is right. It means easily intimidated. Easily threatened.

Friend is right. To be blunt, it means not too smart.

Not a nice thing to say about someone.
