i have an hp pavillion 6736 windows 2000 professional, everytime i start the computer it asks me for the user name and password, which i dont know, what do i press to get onto windows and then how do i take it off?

if what you talking about is the boot password
to solve it is to remove the battery from the motherboard for seconds then but it back.
maybe you will have some problem to start the machine cause the BIOS thing.
restart the machine --> press F1 or delete while starting --> you will be in the system
make the clock and date , check the boot thing make it 1st CD drive, 2nd HD
exit and save
if there is someone can help you on that will be nice. ( or go to BIOS take a look before removing the battery and write everything in a paper :) )

During the boot up keep pressing the F8 key. This will get you into "Safe-Mode". Then go to the control panel "Users" , and change or delete the password.
