I have worked in the Vet Field doing similiar work as a human Medical Assistant has but I would rather work in a human hospital but I don't want to pay the money to go to school since I am under financial constraints. Is it possible to get a Medical Assistant job somewhere? I have a great job record and live in the Bay Area, California.

You do not need to go to school to become a medical assistant. There are a few physicians who will hire and provide on the job training, however the pay will be much lower.

Your chances of getting a job as a medical assistant will be better if you do go to school to learn the skills.

I'm in Maine, but I worked as an office assistant in a family care center associated with a hospital. When an opening came up for a 'clinical assistant' - same as medical assistant - I applied and was hired. I had many skills already, such as taking a patient history, BP checks, stocking exam rooms and doing inventory of drugs and supplies, etc., as I imagine you too have. The hospital provided free training in such things as phlebotomy and safety, and the physician to whom I was assigned taught others - such as assisting with procedures, giving injections, etc. Worked great for all of us.

I believe some states require a certificate, so do check on line (or call your local hospital's human resourcs department) to ascertain your state's requirements. You can also look into low or no cost training through the Red Cross or community colleges. Things like CPR and First Aid training help you get your foot in the door. Best of luck

Anything's possible. However, as the boys from the Jackass movies and shows continually show us, doing something because it's possible, isn't the same as doing something because it's a good idea.

That said, sure. You can probably look into private practices where the doc is old-school or low-key enough that he/she might see that your experience is somehow good enough and comprehensive enough to do similar work with humans.

In short, you'll need to find an office or job where either they don't CARE that you are unqualified, or where they don't KNOW you are unqualified.

Schools and licensing is there for a reason. People are different than dogs (though, as my ex was fond of saying, all men are dogs, so by extension, you may be able to work in a male clinic somewhere ;) ).

If you still insist on making the move to humans from animals, please keep us advised of your progress and where you eventually end up!

(I have a sister who lives in Hayward, and I just need to know where to steer her away from for medical work ;)

No. You have to be a certified medical assistant to do that job. It should be obvious to you that there are vastly different requirements between human patient care and animal veterinary care.

If you don't want to pay the money to get the necessary skills, than you should probably stay in your current field.

no. your skills must be verifiable and animal skills are not the same as human skills.
there are many trade schools that will give you the skills you need in less than a year and you most likely qualify for student loans and grants.
i had financial hardships and a family and went back to school and made it work. you can do it to.
