Going to repaint over lead paint (don't want to sand) and would like to fill in gaps, cracks, etc. Wood filler just cracks again and pushes out--right? Wanted to use something expandable to avoid this. (The floor is made of 6' wide somewhat knotty pine boards- not a nice enough floor to refinish.) Please help-- 1st time homebuyer--OLD OLD home. Thank you.

We were just going to repaint it. We pulled up old carpet, and found the painted wood floor. Probably going to sell, so don't really want expense of new carpet. Trying to just keep in line with 'old home style.' But sage advice reagrding this plan is always welcome.

is the floor going to stay exposed or will you be carpeting over it? If you are going to install carpet I'd suggest just covering the entire floor with 1/4" luan. Comes in 4x8 sheets about $10 a sheet. It will smooth the floor off and cover any holes or cracks.

Silicone is too soft and squichy. Wood filler is best, a coarse sand should be fine if below carpet. Use a high quality filter in your vacuum while sanding the filler, as you will likely hit some of that paint. An N95 rated dust mask might be a nice touch as well.

Petrol? magnificent!!! until eventually ur going to set hearth to it to get it off... there is largely one passable thank you to try this - decrease out previous silicone with a stanley knofe or blade, be thorough. Scrape residue off surfaces with a blade, gently, re stick to new silcone. If the hollow isnt that massive, u wont could put in quadrant tiles, do merely a neat activity. there is at the instant a "Microban" silicone on the marketplace that asserts ten years guarenteed no black mold. I dont be responsive to if it is any stable or not yet i might willingly try it. B&Q are advertising for extortunate £9 consistent with tube regardless of the undeniable fact that it extremely is bought for £4.50 consistent with tube at some commerce shops ( not Travis Perkins!)

Use Bondo. Yep car repair Bondo! It stays, doesn't crack, sands well, holds paint and will even stain. I've used it in (holes even) in cracks up to two inches wide and 1" deep.

No. Use wood filler and sand smooth.
