i think he would be a good candidate personally. he's fairly moderate which i think will aid his capability to be an effective president, so the vast majority of his constituents will identify with him, and also the democratic congress. he will run on the republican ticket, but i believe will fail to gain support because he is socially liberal, but fiscally conservative, history shows us that moderate republicans fail to gain charisma among the voter base because of seemingly divided convictions. i myself am a conservative, but the practicality of social issues hold almost no base within the functionality of a government; social issues only seem to be politically profitable during election time. the democrats won't touch him because he supports the iraq war. he's actually more of an independent, which i think would be great to have someone in office not tied down by party affiliation, but its too hard to get elected without the backing of a major political force like that of the democrats or republicans.

his best attribute is his effectiveness and decision making capabilities we all saw on 9/11. i think he could be an adequate leader as president, but his moderate tendencies will hold him back.

first of all, a comparison to what the dems have would give you a clear conclusion to rudys talents. the most logical competition would be hillary c. when you look at the record of travelgate, filegate, whitewater, the cattle futures fiasco, etc. vs rudy cleaning up nyc and coordinating a relief effort the largest seen in the history of the united states...what are we talking about here?

next, you have to look at where you want the country to go. do you believe in a history of tax and spend where the govt appropriates your money at confiscatory rates, or do you think we have the possibilty to suceed eliminating burdensome regulation and huge tax and spend schemes. if you think thats an exaggeration, consider the tax umbrella guliani created for business to return to times square and get rid of the filth and hillarys co author with bill of the largest tax increase in us history...(2003).

and finally if you think you can plan your own retirement consider that the dems made the tie breaking vote to tax social security, breaking a fifty year promise to the elderly during a clinton administration and the conservatives are now drafting additional legislation to fufill the promise of privatization of social security.

this is a simple choice. self reliance through proven crisis meidation and guidance in nyc or on the other hand...travelgate, filegate, whitewater, etc. i urge you to make the choice carefully ...consider the words of John Edwards yesterday, we have no choice but to raise taxes and know that that means you.

well... everyone has their own idea of the "best"...

but let's put our personal feelings aside for a second and look at the situation...

Republicans have been dominating the south... and have barely been winning the presidency... so I think they have to have it again...

Rudy could possibly put NY into contention though...

but Rudy is soft on MANY of the issues that many people in the south vote on, like abortion and gay marriage... I live in the south and I know several people who vote on these issues alone... and that on top of him being from "New York City" may not help him at all...

a yankee who supports liberal yankee ideas... is how many will see him... and if the dems go with an Edwards, who is more socially moderate and from the south... it could make the south a battleground area, and I don't think Republicans could afford to do that... just me...

but... we'll see? who knows... if Rudy could get NYC, everything could change...

He's got my vote. Anyone that can hold NYC together during a crisis like that can surely handle the White House. He's not a sissy. He says what he means. And he does what he says. RUDY IN 2008!! All the way.

FYI Alessa - Guiliani had an affair after being estranged from and not living with his wife for a few years. And in case you didn't notice, he married his beloved as soon as his wife allowed for the divorce. Unlike Clinton, whose dyke wife was in the next room while he was playing hide-the-cigar with his college-age intern on the oval office desk. And then LIED about it. THAT'S the difference.

I think he would be a wonderful President. He worked so hard to keep New York together after 9/11. Terrorists fear him. He is for gay marriage (and I am a Republican who married into a catholic family) and I 100% agree with him. He is headstrong and will do whatever it takes to get the job done.

Best Republican candidate if you are a Liberal.
Worst Republican candidate if you are a Conservative.

Pro:
Gay marriage
Women's Choice
Gun Control

He might be running down the middle of the aisle for votes.

Personally I don't think that a Republican can win in 2008 after the mid-terms. I think that we will have a Democratic controlled White House and Congress in 2008.

i hate to think you need to explain who the man is... unless you were not born yet, everyone knows rudi and for those who dont... where were you??
9/11 was a tradgety for the entire country, not to mention nyc.
rudys track record as far as the mayor of ny, cleaning up the streets, the graffitti, the crime, the homeless... the man has done more for nyc than any prior mayor of any city. i think hes the absolute best choice... despite his personal and very public affair/ divorce, but, hey... were not talking about bill clinton, now... are we.
i also believe that the nation mourned for ny, and rudy helped the entire nation build faith and strength again. i think he did more the the prez. GO RUDY!!!

Rudy Guiliani is a great crime fighter and he did a wonderful job rallying New York after 9/11. He's one of the strongest national security candidates out there.

HOWEVER, working against him is that he is on record as being openly in support of gay marriage and the slaughter of the unborn (abortion). Also working against him is that he is pro-gun control. If he would change the first two and in spite of the third, I'd gladly vote for him.

As things stand, however, I would like to see either Tom Tancredo or Mitt Romney as the Republican nominee. Both men have taken strong anti-illegal immigration stances and both are conservative on matters of gay marriage and abortion. In addition, Mitt Romney has an excellent economic record, taking multi-billion dollar deficits and turning them into billion-dollar surplusses.

He did a great job rallying people together on 9/11, but I don't see what other qualities make him right for the presidency, although he is pretty liberal and I like that. I like him better than McCain. It amazes me however that alot of Republicans want him simply because of 9/11. They said Clinton was so terrible because of his infidelity, but Giuliani also had an extramarital affair. Interesting.

I think if Giuliani is seriously going after the White House, he needs to be careful about some things. He needs to NOT ride his success as mayor of NY in the wake of 9/11. In fact, it would greatly benefit him NOT to use that as a campaign tactic. I'm a registered Democrat, but I'd vote for him if he refrained from making any mention of his actions in the aftermath of that disaster solely to gain votes.
