I've been told by my friends at school that the way I eat is disgusting, but from my point of view I do not know what I'm doing wrong, and they are no help..

Any advice on what I can do?

What exactly are they complaining about? Possibly:

1. Eating with fingers instead of a fork or spoon?

2. Eating with your mouth open?

3. Burping or passing gas while eating?

4. Eating too fast?

5. Food spilling out of your mouth onto your
clothes or table?

6. Slurping either your drink or soup?

7. Eating with dirty hands?

8. Wiping your mouth with the back of your sleeve
instead of a napkin?

9. Playing with your food before you eat it?

These are about all I can think of that would warrant your eating habits being described as disgusting. If any do apply, then I think my list is fairly self-explanatory, meaning to stop and correct whichever behavior you might be guilty of.

Good luck and, oh, saying grace (maybe silently) and thanking God for your meal is certainly one of the best manners you can have!

Are you eating your food with your mouth closed for a start. Are you chewing or munching - the first being correct. Personally I do not use my knife and manage fine just using the fork and I use a spoon for rice dishes etc., I have eaten in many fineries and it seems acceptable, so just concentrate on the first two points of my hints. PS Don't burp at the table it is offencive ha!

Ask them what you are doing wrong!

1) Eat slowly - it is disgusting when someone wolfs down food
2) Eat quietly - don't make lots of noise as that is Horrible (note the capital H)
3) Cut food up before putting it in your mouth (don't shovel it in)
4) Use knife and fork
5) Keep mouth shut when chewing

Follow those rules and you will be fine! Good luck x

Don't talk with your mouth full, never chew with your mouth open, or show everyone the contents of your mouth whilst chewing, don't make icky noises when you eat (best preventative, keeping your mouth shut). Cut your food into small pieces, don't cram food into your mouth. Don't combine unmixable foods with each other i.e. mayonnaise with gravy, ketchup with creme fraiche etc. Don't mix your food up into one big slop. Don't slurp soup and don't grunt whilst you eat. Don't use your hands to handle sloppy food. Don't burp or fart, if you have to sneeze get a tissue and sneeze into it, or sneeze away from the table. Don't lick the plate when you eat with others. Never blow your nose while people eat. Always pause between mouthfuls. Gluttony is never attractive or polite. Always thank a host for serving a meal.

Take your time eating small bites. Use a napkin.Don't make noises when you are eatting. Do not talk with food in your mouth. Chew with your mouth closed. and above all no farting at the table or burp out loud.

Do you eat too quickly? One flatmate I had used to shovel food into his mouth without stopping. He'd barely pause to swallow before forking in the next mouthful of food.

Or do you make any kind of noise when you eat? Some people make a kind of smacking noise because they open their mouths slightly between each chew. When you're eating try to do so quietly, chew slowly and keep your mouth closed. Also don't overload your fork or spoon with too much food so you have to open your mouth really wide to get it all in (which also gives you hamster cheeks which isn't a good look!).

Well... if they were tue friends, they'd tell you what you're doing wrong! (Or what you do that they don't like?) Are you touching other peoples plates, do you reach across their plates, do you chew your food with your mouth open... there are so many table manners. Who knows which one they think you need to stop, or do, or need to work on... good luck, and keep your elbows off the table!

Well there are TONS of table manners so it could be anything or maybe its just a lot of little things together. Dont shove too much food in your mouth at once, and once it is in there, dont talk with your mouth open.

Ignore them and try experimenting with many other unusual ways including 'the hands free' option which involves face down in plate/bowl...this is best with soup. Also the 'naked public eating' version works quite well in McDonalds and KFC, as well as the 'one for you one for me' variety. Simply offer the people on the next table alternate mouthfuls of your meal.

People have covered most things here that are considered normal, Western, good table manners. I would like to add that scrapping your fork on your teeth as you take it out of your mouth is vile as is licking your knife. Chopping up food before you eat instead of as you eat is pretty gross too.
