Of course not. Freedom is a myth. I'm bound by laws, by property lines, by the need to sustain myself and my family. But, it's relative. I'm more free than many.

My hubby says he KNOWS I'm not free. I cost him a near fortune.

I like to think I am free. I suppose in a sense I am as I am not in prison or hospital or anything. However, we all have responsibilities to other people, i.e. parents, partners, children, friends, employers etc so in a way we are never totally free. We live our lives based on certain expectations put upon us by others, so no I am not free. But I am loved and well cared for, and would much rather have these family members and friends than be alone. So as long as I am happy I feel free and that's what counts (i think)...

Hi Free Toota,

I WANT to believe I'm free, but I know that we aren't suppose to have freewill. That bothers me! Cause I FEEL like I make all my own decisions, but social Darwinist and some philosophers tell me I don't. Who should I believe, myself or the experts?

SO in order to keep what's left of my sanity, I've decided that I'm something called a "Compatibilism." Compatibilism offers a solution to the free will problem. This philosophical problem concerns a disputed incompatibility between free will and determinism. Compatibilism is the thesis that free will is compatible with determinism. Because free will is taken to be a necessary condition of moral responsibility, compatibilism is sometimes expressed in terms of a compatibility between moral responsibility and determinism.

It's kind of technical, but I feel sure that yes I'm free and if I'm free then I'm responsible for what I do as well. If I don't believe this, I'm not sure I could just get on with my life.

I really envy people who just say, "Yes, of course, I'm free!" And don't have to give the question anymore thought. That, I think, is real freedom!

No, but one day i will live by my own laws, away from the crippling society that we live in currently. We are being washed with the filth and sterotypes that the government dictates.
Im sick of it. You should be your own person for gods sake!!

Anyway, i am no where near free at the moment but that is my goal in life. That is my drive and hope.

Nope. I was chained in the womb and there's nothing i or anyone can do to change that. It doesn't mean i can't die trying...or maybe there is some kind of freedom in knowing that you are chained?

there is no such thing.. its a matter of perspective
no one is free, but we have freedom
we are only free to chose our paths
no-one forces you to eat or drink, we are free to chose
