l think it is fear of something they really know nothing about. l'm not homophobic at all but l know a lot of people who are, most of them being men. ln my opinion it is only narrow minded and ignorant people who feel this way. To Milkbone you are so wrong. You obviously know nothing about being a parent !! It has nothing to do with parenting, it is just part of life.

I believe that hate, bigotry, and phobias toward certain segments of society is a learned trait. People have raised their children to believe as they do, which can cause a phobia in itself if the child is more open-minded and educated. Organized religions also contribute to these behaviors.
I also believe that every person on this earth has homosexual tendencies and it is fear of being associated with a minority group that fuels their phobia. Some people perhaps fear themselves and in order to "fight" or combat these natural feelings of attraction toward the same sex they act as the polar opposite. I hope that makes sense.

Fear, I used to work with a bully who would make the life of anyone who was unfortunate enough to work with him who he deemed 'gay' absolute hell! Twenty years on and he lives in Africa with his male partner, it's fear and ignorance that makes people homophobic.

Most homophobics are men who are incapable of thinking outside their own head.
They would jump into bed with nearly any woman who gave the slightest hint they were willing and assume that all gay men think the same.
And of course they themselves are so irresistably sexy that they then assume that all gay men will want to have sex with them if they even speak to them because that is all it takes for them to think a woman wants to have sex with them.
Sad isn't it?

the christians are afraid because god is against the act and that they may get the upper hand and finish up persecuting the christians, thats why the catholics are trying to hold on to their rights because to deny the christ means he denies them, it puts them in a terrable position beleive god and act on his word or be fined go to prison for refusing to believe in the desire of the homosexual. It realy looks like the faithfull are going to be persecuted for their beleif, exactly as it happened in ancient times

ignorance, bigotry, lack of tolerance and acceptance, lack of knowledge. btw, i am straight and have met a gay bloke whilst i was at uni one time, and he was a great person, even if it was for a brief period. i have nothing against gays and lesbians- they've done nothing to harm or offend me and i never discriminate a person because of their sexual orientation and i never will. i accept people for who they are as long as they do good deeds, their race, sexuality, nationality, religious affiliation is irrelevant to me. i treat everyone as equals but at the same time, i dislike bigots
