Los Angeles sucks.
The people are mean and housing is crazy, as far as pricing is concerned.

That's kind of a loaded questions. What are you looking for, the beach, mountains, dry weather, hot weather. Dallas, TX is a good place to live. Housing is very affordable and the economy is growing.
Despite the high cost of living and awful traffic, I would like to live in So. California. The weather is great, the land is beautiful, and there is so much to do. You are literally a few hours drive from the desert, gambling, lakes, mountains, snow skiing, the beach.
Any big city will provide you with nice, new modern houses. The link below might provide you with more information.

If you have enough money to live in Southern California...... move to San Antonio instead. You'll have enough left over to FLY to France, Disneyland, the Caribean, go on a cruise to Alaska....... whenever you want!!! And the people here are great.
