You know what it is - I think the stereotype comes from people thinking that all gay people are insecure and incapable of committing to a relationship. They look at the most visible aspect of 'being gay' - the scene and form an assumption based on that and the rumours that come out of there. The scene is no different to anywhere else that revolves around drink, drugs and sex. It is full if one night stands and 'stereotypes', but it is by no means representative of 'being gay'. There are people who feel forced out onto the scene as a means to meeting people.
The reality is 'being gay' very rarely has anything to do with the scene at all and more to do with individuals and how they want their relationships to be. The sooner that people focus on the positives and how alot of gay relationships last alot longer that a proportional sample of 'straight' relationships. Then the sooner we can start getting some proper understanding and respect!

TruckinOtter and I have been together for 26 going on 27 years now and it has been monogamous. There's more than a bunch of on LGBT that are over 15 years and one a Dear Lady, Rose P and her now desceased partner Gwenneth, they were together for 42 years.
I think it's more of a case that the Gay Community isn't used to hearing about it where a monogamous situation is "supposed" to be the norm in the Straight Community. With the divorce rate over 50% more and more people are playing the feild yet the stereotype is still for the promiscuous gay.
Oh yes, the monogamous relationships are out there and far more numerous than you imagine. Blessings.

We're committed and monogamous. Coming up on 10 years together.
In every stereotype, though, there is a nugget of truth. Men in general are more sex-oriented than women. When you have *only* men in the dating pool, it will tend to be more promiscuous. Straight guys would be the same way - all the talk of "nailing" chicks, getting girls from the bar, etc. - as much as they could - if their target audience thought the same way. But women don't, as much.
What's that old joke:
- what does a gay man bring on a second date? - another date.
- what does a lesbian bring on a second date? - a U-haul.

I’m gay and I’ve been in a faithful relationship for the last 15 years. There’s a lot of sleeping around in the gay world, but that also happens all the time in the straight world.

I thought I was in a monogomous relationship until I met my girlfriends other partner!
Joking about bad experiences aside, we're all just people, monogamy in gay/mixed race/short people/blondes relationships is gonna be about the same.

There's no difference between the GLBT community and the heterosexual community when it comes to monogamy. Some practice it, some don't. The main difference is that the heterosexuals (who are screaming about the sanctity of marriage) are inundating divorce court.

I'm in a lesbian relationship where we've been totally monogamous for 22 years. That's not that common in a heterosexual relationship!!! No, not all gay people sleep around.

The lack of monogamy in the gay community is more emphasized because its so normal in the straight community. They are used to them doing it, but them hearing about us doing it is new.

Not that I am aware of. I think straight people cheat more than gay people.
That's my opinion based on what I have seen.
