When you are in your R and L splits, most teachers ask you to point your toes (both of them stretching forward through your feet) while doing them. Sometimes a teacher will ask you to flex your front foot (lifting your toes to the ceiling) for more of a stretch.
When you are doing straddle splits, most teachers will have you point your toes (stretching your feet and pointing to the sides) when you are performing them in a routine, but when you're just stretching the muscles to achieve a better split, many teachers will have you flex your feet, or point your toes up to the ceiling, resting on your heels while you are stretching. This will allow your legs and muscles to be in a better stretching position to get your closer to achieving your splits.

I hope this helps you out!

It really depends on what type of dancing you are doing.

I am realy into ballet. And if you do know this turnout is everything. So when doing a split you might want to get your front foot's ankle to try and reach to ceiling. Some people have good turnout while must practice turnout every day. Well anyways get your foot's ankle to face up. and please POINT your toes. It looks horible if you don't It looks more like a trick than an artform. You should rotate your back so as to get that front of your ankle to face the ceiling.

When doing a stradle you want to turn your feet out to. Feel the turnout from your thighs not your ankles. It should feel like a candy cane iss wrapping around your legs. so your feet should be facing out toward the sides and please again point your foot.

Turn out is everything you can practice a night by laying on your bed and bringing your ankles to the ceiling. Or when watching TV. whenever

If you have any ?s feel free to email me.
Hope I have helped.
Peace

if yo are doing a split, first point the toes foward. Think abou that split position that you want to achive in your grand jete..... Then flex your feet for a few seconds to get a deeper strech.

the outersides of your ankles on the front leg should be touching the floor and the rear leg (inside ) ankle should touch the floor.
for straddles it would be ideal to have both outside ankles touch the floor.

when ur doing splits on ur right and left side, they should be pointing in front of you (on ur right fooot). The leg in back should be pointing behind u. also, if ur doing ur right split, ur knee should be turned out to ur right. same with the left.
for ur center split, ur right toe should be pointing to ur right, and ur left to ur left.
