Manager, as we all know, are the ones given with the responsibilities to control or take over a department or activity.
Leaders are whom other people would follow. They give orders and directs people how to do their jobs or how to behave.
If you will analyze the definitions, you may find them similar, right?
Now, the difference is that a manager can either be a leader or not. You know how there are managers who do have the title but are not really best fit for leading their personnel into doing great jobs. There are managers who can lead their department into a chaotic one. However, a good leader can always be fit for being a manager or any other positions in whichever aspects, really.

Leader is one with followers. A leader without followers is just a guy/gal out for a walk--alone. A manager oversees subordinates, encourgaes guides, directs and in some cases leads. In others follows when a leader emerges from within the group he/she oversees.

a leader is someone who doesn't necessarily have to be a manager but can be...they are someone that others in a work place enjoy being around and can listen to and respect without being demanding. a leader could be another co-worker who is even inferior to your position, but someone that strives to do well and pushes others to do the same. a manager is obligated to do all of those and might not particularly like doing that. it can go either way..

Leaders are teacher's, guides, and in general achievers.
managers are practical individuals that perform their tasks for a sum, or salary when they feel like to do it, or they can easily relinquish their responsibilities into others, a leader will never do that, he will die for his ideals and ideas.
