He was Born in Houghton le Spring, County Durham
about Mar 1891,died 24th Oct 1955 in Darlington, was married to Florence Emily Dixon, had 5 children, 3 sons, 2 daughters. Ancestry.com is very good so far at finding some information- mostly recent, but still many blanks.

you need to know when he was born, and where. public records remain for 100 years, so you will not trace him on public files published on the net until 2061.

you can go to the archives of where he died, and the records should contain a note to tell you his age, his birth location, and if you are lucky, occupation. local paper obituries may have extended family.

his birth certificate will have his fathers name, as well as mothers, somtimes the maiden name. you will get more infor from your parents marriage certificate, including his occupation.

once back to the 1881 its easy, lots of records are free on the net. Darlington Borough record office is in County Hall of Durham.

free BMD is a good starting place.

Do you know how old he was when he died? There is a 100 year embargo on information on the Internet within the UK. There are 2 useful websites that would help you. The first is Family search which is part of the Later Day Saints -
www.familysearch.org (which is free) and the other is Ancestry.com but this can cost.

Our local library has a subscription to Ancestry so you don't have to pay for it.
