Why are americans scared of small backward countries like vietnam, cuba, venezuela, iraq, iran, somalia, serbia, etc?
Shouldnt the most powerful country in the world be scared of those who can attack it instead of those who dont have more than sticks to defend themselves?

American GOVERNMENT is not scared to small countries they can beat up and steal natural resources from (and lie to the American people about its intetions).

It's afraid of big countries that might actually prove to be formidable opponents.

Iraq is not a small backward country, it was a real power in the middle east, and if we leave it in the conditions we put it in by invading, it will become an unstable power and could possibly be taken over by political groups with terroristic tendencies.

we were afraid of vietnam because we felt that fighting communism as an ideal was important to defeat russia. it was stupid because vietnam's communist leaders were democratically elected.

We shouldn't be afraid of anyone. We are not afraid of anyone, we just see no problem with attacking other nations who represent a threat to the kind of world we want to see and our own economic situation. It's twisted... imagine if other countries were willing to start wars over economic issues. The U.S., which has corporations which enslave the people of many nations, would be under constant attack.

hey voice, I'm 23 and I decided to watch that movie after I read the book. The book is better.

It's these small, seemingly insignificant countries that seem to act the most irrationally.

It's easy to fight an enemy that thinks with some logic and reason, but try fighting a horde of mountain baboons in the deep african jungle. Nothing you do has the intended effect.

hey now, they have rocks too. BIG ONES!
Trust me the US isn't scared of these little countries. We get scared when they do attack or threaten to attack. See bigger powerful countries are that way because they can put their personal hatred of America aside and actually accomplish something.
Smaller countries remain that way, because they are so blind by their hatred they spend all of their time trying to topple us, instead of fixing themselves. So we do things the AMERICAN way, we cut them off at the knees and let them crawl back to their huts.

LOL !!!

You are not afraid of these countries but you "act" like you are afriad because you need a reason to invade small countires like Iraq for their Oil !! How innocent !

Because small countries usually mean guerrilla wars/insurgencies and the US military has great difficulties fighting and winning those types of wars. And those little countries don't use sticks they carry the most deadly small arms weapon know to man: the AK-47 assault rifle that can easily be used by a illiterate 10 year old boy.

We are not AFRAID of them - we are wary of them. That is all. Any country or faction that could have nuclear weapons is worth being wary of.

Iran is working on nuclear weapons, and Iraq as well. They also have rogue elements bent on the destruction of our country. Cuba has a dictator who has spoken of damaging our country for years, and Vietnam has similar issues.

because it's kind of hard for our multinationals to set up shop in those countries if they haven't signed on with our ecomomic paradigm. Next time you're in a clothing store...check the labels to see where all that stuff is made...that's what it's all about.

It's not "scared" but your choice of the word "backward" shows you why we'd need to be concerned. It only took 19 crazy mo fo's to kill 3000 people in one morning.
