My foot size is somewhere between a size 5.5 and 6. The room between the back of the shoe and my heel is not a considerable amount, but I would like to close the gap so that I can wear them more comfortably and not worry about them falling off while I walk.

The shoe that I bought is a size six. The five and a half would be too small. I live In New York City.

They are also peep toes, so I can't stuff the front with paper.

I don't know what kind of back you have, but this line makes something for every shoe problem. I shop at Nordstrom and found them there: http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2872531?refsid=36242&refcat=0%7e2376776%7e2374327%7e2373331%7e2377722&SourceID=1&SlotID=1&origin=related. They are called Foot Petals. The ones in this pictures are actually the ones (and the same shoes!) that my sister wore to my wedding and it helped her a lot.

Absolutely. Get heel grippers. You can find them at your local wal*mart, fred meyer... Walgreens, not sure where you live haha. But any local store/pharmacy. It basically adds cushion/fills up any extra room for shoes that may be a tad too big. Also, if that is not enough. There are also cushions that you may attach to the part on the shoe where the ball of your foot sits, it will help dimish the extra room, plus itll be more comfortable. I use the brand Dr.Scholls, but I'm sure any will work! Good luck!

There are probably lots of products, but by far, the cheapest way to do this is to just stuff some toilet paper into the front of the heels. If the paper tears, just put some more into the shoe. Works every time!

they make heel pads that will keep your feet from slipping. I have never been able to get them to work well for me. My fav pair of black pumps are a smidge too big for mee and the slip. Other than the heel pads or the grips for the ball of your foot, I don't know of anything else that actually works
