I watched the programme with many mixed emotions. My partner is totally blind and we only have 1 child- 5 months old, and I felt that the programme was quite biased, but also that the parents did have some very strange attitudes that strongly affected their lifestyle and parenting style. Would we feel any different if the parents were not visually impaired, but generally fed their kids badly, let the house get in a state or if they drank or had another problem? Having lived and worked with blind people, blind people who have been visually impaired from birth, or have been strongly institutionalised in "blind schools" do find it much harder to cope in society. There are many blind people out their who would hate to be labelled that they "cannot cook" due to their disability- thta's just not true. These parents seemed determined to "prove people wrong" to the point where their own priorities and what was best for their family was really screwwed up.
I felt really sorry for the eldest daughter, and it was so sad that she said she didn't like cuddles and wasn't "that sort of person" and somewhat predictable that at the moment at least, she is strongly against the idea of ever having a family of her own.
The filmmaker asked lots of leading questions as if to try to point out the family's inadequacies ""Didn't anyone tell you it's not a good idea to smoke when pregnant " etc and we are clearly meant to condemn the parents for all sorts of things....
I just hope they open themselves up to the support services thta could help them and think again about havin geven more kids.
We don't live off the state- my partner works full time and is a great dad to our son- we realise there are going to be problems and difficulties, but we don't intend to have more than 2 children and hope we can overcome the challenges we face. This documentary just left me with a very uneasy feeling- about the state of the family and the state of documentary making and presentation. Thought-provoking stuff indeed.....

yes, so sad- the whole house doesn't look like a positive place to work- so grubby and depressing. While I would never ever deny anyone a family, and it's natural that in some families at some times children will have a more important role in the care of their family- it's not necessarily a bad thing I feel that it's unfair to have 7 children and simply expect them all to take care of themselves. She doesn't seem at all put out that she can't do everything for them, but just assumes it will happen!

Everyone has a diffferent life to lead at 10 yrs I was washing cooking and cleaning for my brother and sisters and my parents were not disabled just bone frigging lazy.
As an adult i have always let my children have their childhood despite having a severly disabled first born one thing i swore I would never do is rob my children of any childhood and I kept my word.
That child I have every empathy with and I hope social services do more than go in a clean (like to sack the person doing that)
gie them a proper home help in the morning so those wonderful girl can be just little girls.

yes- very!
those poor girls!! those parents are only having kids so that there is someone to look after them when they are older- which is obviously no justification to having kids ever!
And then to refuse most of the help available to them from the soc services because they are too proud and then rely on their 2 young daughters completely, it's just so unfair on the girls!
