It depends on what you mean by "wash." You should never remove everything from your tank and clean it "squeeky clean." and especially, never use soap. Doing a super great cleaning may look good to you, but it is very bad for the health of the fish. There is a beneficial bacteria that grows in the gravel and filter that are very necessary and important to the health of the fish and too good of cleaning kills that bacteria. You should only siphon the gunk from the gravel and do a 25% water change weekly. Never remove all of the "old" water. Also, you only need to rinse the filter in the old water that you remove from the tank. The filter only needs to be changed about twice a year. All of this said, if you have a tiny bowl or tank with too many fish in it, you will need to do a 50% water change every day just to keep the ammonia levels down to keep the water healthy for the fish. Good luck!

PLEASE listen to drezdogge and Eric ... and me. You should never completely take the tank down and clean it, those that say to really don't understand much at all about fish yet. Also, you should clean your filter at least once a month (twice is far better IMO), those that say other wise don't understand carbon at all.
Do a 25% or so water change once a week, clean the filter everyother time and your tank will stay pretty clean and will be much healthier for the fish.

Once a week should be good if there's only one small fish, but it also depends on the amount of food and how many times a day you feed it. Usually, only once is good if you have just one.

well fish need some of the bacteria in its tank to survive so once a week is better for it's health.not only that, but everyday would probably drive you insane!

Just once a week. Everyday would be both stressful on you and on the fish.

NOOOOOO. You are seriously stressing out you little fish! Please stop, with all the washing, your tank needs to build up a good ph level. Get a plecostamus fish to help if you have algea problems. A good filter is more important! If you have to clean it ...only discard about 1/2 of the water and add new water. Over feeding can also lead to cloudy water. hope you make your fish friend happy

I think that twice a week is better. It may permanently injure or kill the fish to have too much interaction with strange things.
