it is actually 1 year for the real life test according to HBIGDA and the standards of care. however this is after seeing a conselor for some time normally atleast a year and having been on hormones for atleast a year also. from my experience the average time from start to surgery is about 3 years time (unless your wealthy). its not a fast process by any means and people need to take their time and go into this with a serious mind set.

According to the standards of care, 1 year full-time is required before someone can get the op.

Two years in role. But I would suggest taking as long as you need. It's very drastic surgery, and should only be for the few who are genuine. I have only ever come across a few who are truly happy after surgery.

In the UK you have to live for two years if you go through the NHS. I think that if you go private it is only a year but I'm not sure about that.
