2007-02-05 08:01:24 · update #1

Shre usually has formulae, but she was @ nursery until 6 today. I just went to make her bed time feed and realised that the nursery have left the milk behind. I have 2 children my son is in bed, i don't really fancy getting them both up and dressed to go to the shops. It is only for one feed, i will get her more formulae for morning feed 2morrow. Do u think this will be ok?

I personally wouldn't do it, their intestines aren't mature enough to handle cow's milk until 12 months old. But, some of my friends started their babies on cow's milk at 9 months old.

i cant belive how many people have said no, the general advice from practicioners is no cows milk till 12 months, but most people start before that my son went on to cows milk at 7 months as the formula simply wasnt filling him, he had no adverse reaction whatsoever in fact he slept better and was never sick or had tummy upsets, however i had time to think about the transition, it wasnt an emergency, if you use cows milk tonight and your baby does get a bit sickly your goin to feel awful, somebody elses suggestion of getting a taxi to pick it up for you would be the best idea, my husbands a taxi driver and picked a prescription and some lucazade up for someone last week, surely a friend or a neighbour could help out, even if they dont drive they could maybe watch the little ones while you go to a 24h store, if your babys like mine she wont be greatful for apple juice, when they want milk, they want milk! good luck.

I wouldn't reccommend it. When I gave my son whole milk for the first time, I didn't do it gradually like the doctor said, and he ended up staying awake all night with horrible cramps and gas. The best way to wean your child off the formula and onto milk (which is usually best if done around 1 year of age, but it can be done earlier. Make sure you check with your child's doctor first) is gradually. Start with 1 oz milk, and the rest formula for a good week, and then move it up to 2 oz milk with formula. This is the best way for the baby's digestive system to get used to the whole proteins in milk vs. the partially-broken down ones in formula. If your 9 month old is already starting on more solid foods, like applesauce, you may want to try some warm water (bottled or filtered if possible) and a small amount of apple juice. It won't keep her full for as long as the formula would, and it's best done in the morning, but it does save on formula. Just remember: Never mix apple juice with milk or formula. Happened to me once when I was tired :) that was a mistake and a half. Good luck!

wow! I was amazed at the negative answers regarding this question. My daughter is 9 months old, and I started her on whole milk about two months ago. I believe that most of these no answers are based on all of the parenting books that say no until they are a year old. I say try it, but dilute it 50/50 with some water if it will make you more comfortable.

hi, nicely my son is already 4 and that i cant enable you be attentive to that switching to entire milk is diverse with each newborn, yet to start getting him use to it , combination a lil little bit of the formulation and comprehensive milk . That way whilst he's a million 300 and sixty 5 days previous he would be attentive to the style. As for solids you supplies you him rice, puree of culmination and vegtables made at abode in a nutrition processor. Make fruity beverages no longer too sugary of direction ,so he learns a thank you to attempt each little thing. My son is so choosy and he's 4 and now he's studying to attempt new issues. stable success , i be attentive to how terrible formulation milks smell LoL!

No you should never give your baby whole milk. There little digestive system cant handle it at the moment. You can give your baby follow on milk which I guess that she is on. I have a little girl who is 4 months old. I am a first time parent and I was clueless about babys cow and gate site is really helpful. no dont do that!!! dont give the baby cows milk until they are 12 months... if i were you id make the baby some cereal very diluted with water, and put it in a bottle, and try that way... at least the baby will have a full tummy, and you wont have to worry about any adverse reactions...

My doctor advised me to give my daughter whole milk when she was 8 months old as she would't drink her formula at all, he also said that years ago all babies were on formula at 6 months old and how were babies able to survive then.

Phone a taxi to go to the chemist to buy some for you - they will charge you for it and the taxi fare, make sure they know exactly what to buy - or phone the late night pharmacy and have them get it ready for the taxi driver to collect. This is fine, people do it all the time for prescriptions and things. Good luck
