Like that ol' Brit Shakespeare said "What's in a name? A rose by any other name smells just as sweet." Whatever it's called it's the best game in the world. Let's all give it a rest and enjoy the game.

What makes it so ridiculous is those who argue that American football should not be called such are the same ones who will point out how soccer doesn't have a following here. What would they expect?

Not to mention how they ignore the fact that American football was established before any Association football game was played, AND that an Englishman coined the term "soccer" so as not to get the games confused in conversation.

So, the world has soccer, America has football, there is no confusion within America about which is which.

Jo, the onlything that happened is that people in America and some country in Europe felt like calling your american football FOOTBALL, when they really stole the name from the original football (soccer), but football really is soccer, your's is called american football. Why don't they make up a word for it, just like they made up soccer? I myself am from Argentina, and i call it futbol, which obviously comes from English.
In conclusion, football is soccer, and it's sad you guys call it soccer and not football

Yea I am. People get so frustrated about it, and I don't see why. Well, obviously some hate the fact that Americans call it soccer, but it's really not a big deal...That is just what we call...it's not like we do it just to make others mad. I don't think the name really matters, just as long as we're talking about the same thing.

I'll go with the Gatorade commercial that said "Football is football, unless it's football" (refering to both kinds).
