You need to get this little fella to a vet (preferably one that specializes in exotics or herps) Any number of things could be wrong, but chances are it has an infection and the longer you wait, the longer it will take for this little one to get better. My slider stayed in for the winter, but was penned outside for the warmer months, he had a fish pond to play in and fresh food - fresh air. Keep his environment clean - It takes little effort for mold and bacteria to grow in their environment.

It sounds like he has an upper respiratory infection (similar to coccidiosis in birds). Get him to the vet. We had a box turtle with a similar problem and had to give him antibiotics with a tiny syringe for about 10 days.

i had a similar encounter with 1 of my turtle. the sound was so "choking" dat it pierces my heart. it went on for a while and it subsided as she still eats well. another turtle went on a hunger strike for 3 days, it tooks me same 3 old days trying to pacify her to eat. but if a turtle always wan to sleep, diaster spells. i had 1 who never wake up eversince.

the first thing i would do is crank up the heat, and reduce the water level, get him into four or five inches of water and a basking spot that is 90F or above and water temp that is not below 75F, then get him to a vet, turtles can idle with respiratory infections but you cant let him go with this he can die

Check out the various care sheets and articles at http://www.austinsturtlepage.com for more ideas, but...

Odds are the main culprit here is cold. The water temp should be 75-80F and cold causes a lot of other problems.

this turtle is suppose to be hybernating right now so his life cycle is off balance try getting some worms and let these wiggle and hit the tip of his nose and if he opens his mouth put it in there in the mean time put him somewhere dark and warm

Good answer Drezdogge, raise the temp in the tank and get it to a vet as soon as you can , especially since he isn't eating and seems lethargic. Good luck to you both.

Go to the vet. He might be sick. Is your turtle stressed out?
