I would imagine that making something hotter would slow down the speed that sound travels through it because the molecules get further apart.

Hotter temperature would slow down the speed of sound just a tiny bit and it would be almost not measurable.

The more you raise temperature, the less dense air becomes.
Sound travels much faster in denser materials such as liquid or solids.
