It would be impossible to regulate, one person one vote, what about all the people without access to the phone or computer?
It would probably cost much more.

Our Constitution somewhat predates the Internet.
I suspect that eventually there will be some sort of direct democracy such as you describe -- at least for some things, or perhaps some people would vote in areas of interest to them, that they had researched.
We'd have to get the technology down (to make it secure and accurate, and have a way to control who votes -- no three-year-olds, for instance), make sure every eligible voter has the equipment and access to the net, and we'd have to amend, or even rewrite, the Constitution, which gives legislative power to the legislative branch.
We'd also need an educational system that, well educates, that prepares people to understand and decide on issues.
Also, there'd need to be some system for creating and proposing legislation. As it is now, the people who do vote on legislation (Congress and their state and local equivalents), propose and write the stuff voted on.
We'd need a replacement for them.
Of course, Congresspersons wouldn't want to give up their power (or their perks), so that's an obstacle as well.
Some towns used to have (don't know if there are any that still do) Town Hall Meetings (real ones, not the fake ones they have now) where citizens voted on local laws.
But as a rule, we're a Republic, that is, a representative democracy, not a direct democracy. Or, more acurately, an unrepresentative democracy -- those freaks sure as sh*t don't represent ME.

Electronic voting seems a great way to get more people involved. (especially younger people). I know there are problems but we do send tax forms electronically. It also seems all the blue book-type explanations, perhaps the house or senate sites for examination of voting records. could be linked to whatever you're voting on so you'd understand issues better. There is so much information available-we should use it.
I still believe we have to have congress, though-the issues are so complicated-but we could more easily vote them out!

Aside form the issues of vote fraud and manipulation, the Founding Fathers called your idea "the Tyranny of the Majority".

Who's to say you are some foreigner, or a kid, or a convicted felon. Who's to say you aren't voting for the whole family? Who's to say you aren't in France, trying to fix our elections? Sorry, I would fight that system tooth and nail.

Nice idea....Power to the People and all, but it's a full time job and you need a Representative. It is a shame, they are nearly always such scum bags, more interested in their own gains.

Couldn't agree more although I think there would be some difficulties in setting the system up.
Be worth it though to get rid of all those parasites that call themselves OUR representatives.
