Other than the whole fame thing, they're just normal ppl like the rest of us. So why does it seem that celebrities do alot more "spouse hopping" than the general public does?

You somewhat answered your question in the first part of your statement, other than fame, they are normal people. Normal people are fully capable of becoming overly-conceited if you start exalting them, and giving them more credit than they deserve. When a normal person is fully aware that they can do something that could be considered taboo, or is wrong and get away with it, usually they go ahead and do it. Celebrities have led a pampered life style that protects them from the ongoing consequences of their own actions. The fascination many people have with celebrity status allows them to remain famous, and consequentially numbed to the effects of real life interactions.
They retain a certain child-like impulsiveness about themselves, because they have been allowed to for so long, that they know nothing else. They don't understand what love is, and they are for the most part incapable of grasping the concept and reality of true love. Just like teenagers, they find it difficult to distinguish between lust and/or appreciation of another human being and love; but unlike teens, when they initiate a crash course in puppy-love and/or lust, they have a lot more resources at their disposal, not the least of which is marriage. Many things celebs do stem from the fact that they have been allowed to believe that they are above consequence and repercussion, and a lot of the time it isn't so much that they are doing wrong, it's that they are doing otherwise ordinary everyday things in awkward fashion, sometimes, though not often, they are entirely unaware of the fact that what they have done is either a social faux pas, or simply the wrong way to go about doing it. Usually though they just know that it doesn't matter b/c the American public affords them the ability and the permission to be listless @ssholes, and still be embraced for all the things they are exalted for a few days later.

They are just like us, except for the fact that because of their careers they tend to be away from each other more than the normal family. Weeks and months at a time often. Sometimes absence doesn't make the heart grow fonder, it just leaves room for someong else to move in. Also, when you're talking about Hollywood, you're talking about people who are in the limelight all the time. Hence they take care of themselves better then normal people would. Their the perfect body and clothes, makeup, fix up, you name it. And because of this I think it is easier to be tempted by others. I guess fame isn't everything.

First of all, I'd like to see some data that says they are actually divorced more frequently than non-celebrities. I mean you never see headline reading "So-and-so STILL together" so it's hard to tell.

Better yet, it would be more accurate to compare them only with other couples who both have successful careers, who travel alot without their spouse and who work long hours with other beautiful people. Maybe there's a few ideas right there about factors other than celebrity that can add lots of stress to a marriage.

How would you like to live your life in a fish bowl? Not me..
Not an ounce of privacy is offered these people.
I disagree about the celeb spouse hopping.. have you looked around.. Good Lord, the world is one big orgie. It seems no one can remain faithful.. Why do people even bother getting married?

Because the media makes up so many rumors about them, and they get sick and tired of it but end up believing what the news has to say about their significant other.
