Gargamel created Smurfette, who originally had black hair. Papa Smurf made a potion to make her a "good smurf". It turns her blonde. I don't know if it was part of the communist theme or not... read the link to find out more. Despite the fun of that show, I really hate that they associated brunettes with bad and blondes with good. My wife is brunette and proud of it!

yes, smurfette was created by Gargamel to disrupt the smurfs way of life. It didn't work too well!

Yes she was, but the plan did not work, because her original look was ugly (At least she thougth she was ugly) She looked like any other smurf, but had short black hair. It was thanks of the magic of Papa Smurf that transformed her into the blond we remember today. Unfortunately I can't remember very well what happened after this, because it's been years since I have read or seen an episode of the smurfs :)

I think he created her in order for her to led them to him or something. I am not too sure though. I dont' know why he never just burned those blue bastards up.
