I think the medical advance that has really benefitted mankind was when the doctors, nurses and such started to wash their hands and tools before working on a patient, before that a lot of patients died from unnecessary infections, that wouldn't have happened with clean hands and tools.

the introduction of ORS [ORAL REHYDRATION SOLUTION] is probably the biggest medical advance of the last century as it saved so many lives in such a short time [and is still saving many lives especially in children]
