Sergei Samsonov. When he played in Boston, I went to the Wives Carnival. They had a speed gate set up and when Samsonov went through they clocked him at 22 MPH. Sidney Crosby and Ovechkin are very good skaters, but they do not skate the fastest in the NHL.

Actually no. Although those two are amazingly good, they are not the fastest. It is really hard to rank speed in the NHL because rarely does a skater have the chance to show off his full skating capability because he is constantly pressured by other players. Therefore the 'fastest' players in the NHL are the ones that are quick and can accelerate the fastest. With that said, my votes go to Marty St. Louis and Brian Gionta

No....neither Sidney nor Ovechkin (they didn't win fastest at the All Star game). I'll go with Lombardi from the Flames. 2 steps and the guy is at full speed pulling away from everyone!

the fastest player in the nhl would be sami kapenen nobodys faster than him. he just needs to learn how to control the puck at high speed like ovechkin does.

Ovechkin actually registered the worst time in the all-star skills event, however he can skate the same speed while carrying the puck while others slow down considerably. Ill still take Ovechkin

I think St.Louis, Kovalchuk and Afinogenov are the 2 most agile players however i think flat speed i agree with alot of the other posts that Gaborik is the fastest. I also notch Marian Hossa as someone who is in the top echelon of players with great speed.

crosby and ovechkin are fast but i don't think the fastest. But between the two ovechkin is faster.

Have you seen Matthew Lombardi? That guy gets more breakaways than anyone I've ever seen. I think he's the fastest player in the league.

Scott Niedermayer would have easily won the Fastest Skater if he hadn't been injured and had gone to the All-Star Game. He won it last time he participated.
