Clearly it is because Mars is cool and Venus is hot, as in cool dudes and hot chicks :-)

Less clearly, intrinsic brain differences are small but very important. It is theorized that women are more social and multitasking because they spent most of their time in the village with other women and children juggling chores and raising kids at the same time. They expected little change in their day to day routine and environment.

Men spent more time defending territory and hunting for food. Usually these situations required the ability to coordinate with other males in complete silence and stay focused on such tasks for very long periods of time and not get distracted. Great change on a day to day routine was normal.

This is thought to be generally why women want a home and a social support structure and prefer stability in their surroundings and why men are less expressive but exhibit stronger protection behavior with possessions and feel less need to "settle down"

Of course, these are only generalizations and individuals frequently do not adhere to them.

This idea is based on the couple of lovers, Mars and Venus, the Roman gods. So Mars represents the male sexual drive, and Venus the female. In the horoscope, Mars means action, and Venus means art or love. When Mars aspects Venus, forming an angle of 60 or 120 degrees, or there is a conjunction between them, it should read love for the opposite sex, desire to have children, or to make love. Could also mean the desire to express a feeling through art form. But 90 degrees or opposition, should mean the native is excessively sex driven or mislead. In both cases other aspects should be examined, like Neptune, for instance, that would put fantasies into the game, or Pluto, that, with a bad aspect, mean the tendence to rape or force sex. Saturn, on other hand, is bad aspected, would bring coldness, and so on.

I think it's just the way we're wired. We're different but you put two together and they comliment them well. I think men are naturally more aggressive. Meant to be the hunter type to provide food and shelter. Women are more caring and compansionate to compliment raising children. I always look at humans as if we were designed to be animals. Then you see how people make more sense when we're not in a modern world. So if a man and a woman are together they both have strengths that work as a whole to keep a family alive and well.

I know it is impolite to answer a question with a question, but why is this question in "Astronomy and Space?"

Being a physicist, I can tell you that as a group we are not the best people to turn to for advice on relationships and the differences between men and women. Maybe you should try in the Sociology or Psychology sections.

Because John Gray said so in his book. But he bases it off of the old saying, which undoubtedly gets its meaning from the names of two Roman gods: Venus, goddess of love, and Mars, god of war.

Either science has shown how aptly named those planets were in accordance to their respective sexes, or humans now perceive particular things about the sexes because of the old adage, "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus."

Maybe it's a question of nature or nurture.... Hmm....

Because stereotyping and generalizing made him a lot of money with the book. I doubt it would have sold if he called it "Men and Women are very similar except in a few ways"
