My grandmother died about 3 weeks ago. We were very close. I am still having problems controlling my grief. How long is normal for this to occur?

Grief has no time limit. Some people are able to process it better than others and may appear to have "moved on", but they have not.

Give yourself as much time as you need and do not accept somebody telling you that you have grieved long enough. Do not be afraid to seek out a grief support group or a therapist.

You have a right to grieve.

The answer is different from everyone.

3 weeks is not unusual. You are totally normal to continue to have significant grief. In time, it should decrease. Although, to be honest, you may have days (e.g., birthdays, holidays, anniversary of death) were the feelings will come back.

However...

If you're finding yourself acting in ways that put yourself or others in danger, or if you're finding yourself unable to conduct your own life, you should seek some help.

Sorry for your loss.

Depends on the people, circumstances and the overall impact of the death.
Some for 6 month others for two or more years.
