One of my favorite shows on tv is the HBO tv show 'Rome'.
I'm curious though- has it been more or less historically accurate, or have there been any glaring historical innacuracies? (other than everyone speaking English)
Usually any period piece made for tv has glaring inacuracies...
Even still, its a great, albiet very vilolent show...

There are parts of it which are both accurate and inaccurate, you have to take it for what it is.

The best historically accurate series of the Roman Empire was a BBC Production called "I Claudius". This was not only brilliantly acted but also on form when it came to the history of the time.

Most of the broad outlines about Julius Caesar, Marc Anthony, and Octavian are right. Of course the stories involving Lucius Vorenus and Pullo are completely made up. However, they wanted to show how life was for people other than aristocrats. And the kinds of things that happened to them did happen in ancient Rome.

I agree with Sally about Rome and I, Claudius. I Claudius would be a great series to watch after Rome. You have to see it as a stage play, rather than as a movie, but the story and acting are brilliant.

The plot is inaccurate. The costumes and scenery are accurate. Caesar dies and Antony and Octavian team up to kill all those who killed Caesar. It is at that point that Octavian and Antony divide the Empire into two halves and Antony gets Gaul and the area that has Cleopatra's territory. A war is started when Antony seek to name Caesarian as a Roman heir to Caesar. It is a naval battle and that is why Marc antony loses. His fleet is destroyed. Caesarean is detected trying to flee the country and is killed. Antony kills himself and so does Cleopatra.
