When I was in Melbourne I went to Chinatown in the central buisness district. Head to one which dosent look so expensive, thast is where you will get the best most authentic chinese taste. Also keep your eye out for where there is alot of chinese people eating, there are lots of in Melbourne, so if you follow them you are guarenteed a good meal. I went to one around they area i mentioned and it looked crap but it was the best i tasted. Also get her to take you to the Richmond Hotel in Richmond, absolutley grand food.

Little Bourke Street between Swanston and Exhibition Streets is the Chinatown of Melbourne. Plenty of Chinese and Asian restaurants in that area Look for those that are crowded!
Pacific House in Victoria Street, Richmond serves good Cantonese style food. They have another branch in Toorak Road, South Yarra.
Dragon Boat in La Trobe Street is good for dim sum (yum cha)

while you're finding for some genuine, unique Italian, you could no longer bypass previous Il Gambero's on Lygon St Carlton. it somewhat is a kin run employer, with nicely priced, vast servings and has a sort of cosiness it somewhat is so welcoming in winter. the staff are friendly and prefer to have a communication with you, love comments relating to the meal. i beg you to furnish it a bypass! there are various different shops around it, so which you may desire to purchase some hand made goodies, New Zealand gelati, purchase a e book on the newsagents, or have a coffee whilst your there!
