Some smokers are inconsiderate, and I say that as a smoker. I try to make sure that I don't smoke in areas that are inconsiderate or unfair to others. For instance, bars - I'll smoke there because it's an environment that is conducive to smoking. I won't however smoke in places where little kids are around. And I try not to smoke when I am around a group of people that consists of mostly non-smokers. It's a tough issue because I do understand that non-smokers dislike being around smoke, but at the same time, I want to be able to smoke a cigarette when I wish.

For non-smokers, there are just some places that you have to be around smokers and if you don't like it, then try not to frequent those places.

I am a smoker, but I try to be as considerate as possibel. This weekend I was at the theater. I was in the outside line for the tickets and a pregnant woman and her husband got in line behind me. I gave my money to my friends and went to stand where my smoke wouldn't blow on the pregnant lady. If I am standing outside and people are walking by, I wait till they pass to either take a drag or blow out my smoke. I think that if the rest of the smokers would be more considerate, there would be no problem. And I live with two children (my cousins), I don't smoke in the house and I don't smoke near windows where the smoke could get in.

> do you think the smokers are very considerate of others?
Judging by the number of butts at each freeway offramp, absolutely not.

> will be war between smokers and non-smokers?
Nope.

> what do you think?
Cigarettes are the #1 cause of house fires that result in fatalities. This dangerous product should be subject a recall and redesign, and not put back onto the market until it is safe.

First of all, I smoke, so here is MY side of the situation.

I think I am VERY considerate of others. And what I mean when I say this, is when I smoke and others around me don't, I normally step outside to smoke. Or, I leave and go to another room. If it is a really serious situation, I refrain from smoking. Once you step into my house however, do not tell me not to. I normally smoke outside even at my own house. Tell me I am not considerate.

If you do not remember, in the past, it used to be "glamorous" to smoke. Everyone that was anyone, smoked. Now a days, most people smoke to relieve stress, as did I at one time, which has only become an obsessive habit.

Whenever I don't have a cigarette for about, oh say 2 hours, I start to get testy, and ill. I start to get short tempered. Not because I am mad, but because my mind is like, "Where is my nicotine?"

I do not believe there will be a so called, "war", or "battle" of any sort, but I do believe if we keep outcasting smokers like we do now, there may be problems in the future with OTHER obsessions. It is simple, you outlaw one thing, they find something else.

Think about it. Cigarettes are really a drug in a way. They are legal, and they do not mess your mind up with judgment, but they do mess with your mind as in, "I need... I need... I cannot do with out....". Illegal drugs, suck as Marijuana, and Crack, heroin, so forth, are illegal only because they have been proven to be abused, and once abused, they impair your judgment. But, do you realize all of the OTHER drugs out there that are soo easily accessible to our children these days, beside cigarettes? Lets see, spray paint, aerosol cans for cleaning computers, bug spray, etc. Many very harmful, but abused every day.

When I was in high school, I hung out with the friends that inhaled sharpie markers. I myself smoked weed, and I now stick to cigarettes.

Let me ask you this, after all I have told you, would you rather be around a smoker, or a drunk?

At least by smoking a cigarette, you can't get in a deadly car wreck because your judgment was impaired. You can die, yes, from tobacco smoke, but after a period of long term use. It only takes one night of drunken play, and you could splatter your brains all over the road.

Think about it.

There are very few considerate smokers that I have come across, but the ones that get my vote are the ones that ask before they smoke (of course I say yes) but not in my vehicle or house. A little courtesy goes a long way.

I find many smokers aren't very consideraste, some are. But you find some that are very inconsiderate and feel it's their right and non-smokers should have to deal with it. Well, I'm happy the government is now saying people have the right to not have to smell it. Which is the way I feel it should be. I'm sick of getting a sinus headache and having my clothes stink because of someone elses habit.

I think it should be against the law for smokers to be in a vicinity where non-smokers can inhale their smoke. As for their private lives? I still see so many ignorant and stupid people smoking with their kids right in their vehicles. Where are their brains? Gimme a break!

I think it depends on the person. Many of my friends that smoke ask me before doing it, because i don't smoke. I usually don't mind but they know i don't like smelling like smoke. Some people however will do just plain dumb things like smoke in the car with a child or smoke in a restaurant which is sick even if you are in the smoking section. I mean there is nothing to stop the smoke from traveling over to you its all the same air. So i general i think it depends on wather the person is considerate.

I think there is a fundamental issue that smokers need to address. Its the severity of their stench. Smokers dont realize that the smell much worse than they believe they do. They are so desensitized to their own stench that they are not aware that their smell is overpowering. No amount of perfume, mints, gum or air freshener is going to cure it. They stink.

Some are. The ones who blow smoke in very public places, especially where there might be children, aren't. The ones who litter the ground with their cigarette butts aren't. Just look around anytime you're outside. The ground is absolutely COVERED with cigarette butts. There almost isn't a square foot of space that doesn't have at LEAST one cigarette butt on it. It's disgusting. It's very sad that it's also gotten to the point where we almost don't even notice it anymore, because it's so common.
