I broke my finger on friday, Feb.2, and the regional swim meet is saturday the 10th. I am wondering if I have a chance at swimming at the meet and the practices this week.

yeah for sure. don't wear a splint, just take some electrical tape, (because its the only real water proof tape around,) and tape it to a finger that is next to it. don't tape it to your thumb though, while you swim, try not to bend it too far.

Ask your doctor. Usually, a broken finger isn't a problem for an activity like swimming, but if your finger is in a cast you probably won't be able to get it wet -- ditto that if the finger is splinted. Your doc can tell you for sure.

Not if you never learned how to swim. If you know how to swim, I don't think a broken finger would be that much of a handicap for you.

I wouldn't let a broken finger slow me down. Well, I'd try to swim anyways and if it hurt too much, then I'd stop.

It may be a bit awkward but I would splint the broken finger to the one next to it so that it is immobile. Good luck.

Tape it to your other 3 fingers. I have done this many times, and I also swam with 2 cracked ribs.

A broken finger should not hamper you in swimming.

Yes. Taping it to other fingers will make it more like a paddle. May help you not hurt you.

I surfed for years, and had many broken fingers throughout the years. As far as competing, the kind of surfing I did, either you swam or you drowned. Get it...!!!

Splint the thing and swim away.
