I'm using a 1.1 usb hub, my computer has 2.0 usb ports, I have a bunch of stuff connected, like 6 or 7 things and when I try to add another thing, it says bandwidth exceeded try changing to another controller.

If I get a 2.0 hub, will that fix the problem.

Probably, assuming that you are not exceeding the 2.0 specs as well.

Unpowered USB hubs have to draw power from the PSU or battery and the amount of power a USB 2.0 can draw is limited, so your HDD's may not be receiving enough power (this may only be a problem because they are running through a USB hub) so they are not running as they should. A powered USB hub can supply much more power to any device plugged in. Other thoughts: Wtf? Your laptop only has a 16 GB HDD inside it? What were you thinking when you bought this? Did you just get it from a family member? Sorry. I suggest buying an internal laptop HDD with a larger storage capacity as well.

It's not very uncommon for a USB 1.1 hub to run out of bandwidth.

Full Speed was the fastest rate before the USB 2.0 specification and many devices fall back to Full Speed.

Full Speed devices divide the USB bandwidth between them in a first-come first-served basis and it is not uncommon to run out of bandwidth with several isochronous devices.

Check with the device specs.

You should discuss this with a local support technician. Maybe when you go into the computer store to get the new hub, ask one of the employees there.
