Because the only free speech liberals support is their own.

Just look at how *invited* conservative speakers are treated by liberals at colleges all over this country. Seems to me if you're confident in your position, you'd have nothing to fear from the other side's point of view.

Hypocrisy, thy name is liberal...

Yes liberals and conservatives appear to be for free speech right up until the point where someone disagrees with them. Its the same on both sides. Free speech as long as its my speech. And don't give me this crap about it being the liberals who are the only one's who do this. You people know damn well if you don't want to hear nobody should have to hear. Maybe though if everyone would quit talking for a minute and there could be some actual debate with actual facts and insight outside of emotions we could get somewhere, but that's just not going to happen now is it.

OK, here we go.

I am a liberal.

You have the right to say you don't agree with Gay Marriage.

I have the right to call you close-minded.

I won't call you a dirty name, but I cannot be responsible for what others do.

I think whether or not you or I are for or against Gay Marriage is far less important than our economy, education and Nation's security, I do not think it is Governments role to re-define OR define Marriage. I cringe when our Congress is wasting time doing things like this when there are so many other issues.

Feel better now?

nobody regardless of their political affiliation wants somebody to disagree with them. So just because a person believes you should have free speech, doesn't mean they want you to exercise it, lol.
Honestly I don't care if you or anybody else agrees with my ideas. As they are my own, I have put in the work to come to those conclusions and others can do their own legwork! lol
Just as your ideas are yours. You can't change a persons mind, you can only hope they will come to the same conclusion as you on their own.
Thats whats great about this country,we all have the right to be closeminded and ignorant, but I agree some people are abusing the right, lol.

I've been called names that I wouldn't repeat on here by conservatives, so everyone is equally offensive when it comes to name-calling. As for gay marriage, I could give a crap, as I am not gay. I think liberals just wonder why gay marriage is usch a big issue with conservatives. We have a lot more important issues in the US then gay marriage.

Ernest, quit acting like you are the victim. Your questions are extremely offensive.

You can say whatever you want, but I, in turn, can call you "close minded" if I think you are. There's a difference between you having free speech and me agreeing with you.

Closed minded why you say you don't agree with GAy Marriage? That's like saying we were closed minded when we told you that we were against slavery and the 'separate but equal' clause in the south. Your statement is ridiculous. It is you that is closed minded when you deny a section of the population to rights that you have already.

Well, first of all.. I don't know why you think you can speak for all Liberals. I am a liberal and I respect your right to your opinion.. just remember to respect mine.
It is certainly your problem if you have trouble with your fellow man or woman if they happen to be gay. That is a bias and unhealthy, but you have every right to feel that way. just don't stand in the way of laws that enable those who are not exactly like you , to live.
The world is a melting pot of colour and creed and religion and spoken word.. we can.. all live together as long as we stop pushing our own , very personal beliefs on each other.

I dont think that open mindedness and free speech are related...I am not sure what point you are trying to make....

If you are trying to say that liberals dont like it when people speak out against gay marriage, I am not sure you are correct. As a liberal, I am happy to have folks speak their minds about it.

You see, the more false conservatives speak out about their opposition to allowing a free and equal society for all citizens (and opposing gay marriage means that homosexuals are not treated equally or given the same freedoms as others) the easier it is for us to point out their hypocrisy.

So...please continue to speak out against freedom and equality....I will never oppose your right to free speech....Getting your ideas out their is the key to our success....

Because they do not recognize the validity of any other beleifs than their own. If you disagree with them, then you just HAVE to be: stupid, evil, ignorant, greedy, selfish, wrong, stupid, evil, fascist or close-minded.

They will never consider that an opposing opinion might just be based on facts, logic or reason and held in good faith.

It's hypocritical to agree with free speech and not gay marriage. Not allowing gay marriage is unconstitutional. "Every man is created equal." Not without gay marriage, they're not. They're not treated equally. I'm not saying you have to agree with it, but the government should not treat them any differently than anybody else. By not legalizing gay marriage, they're oppressing homosexuals.
