I don't know about a fiddle leaf fig, but to air layer all you do is make a deep nick on the side of a branch. Wrap the nick with sphagnum moss, water well, and wrap the whole area with plastic wrap. Check it after 2-3 weeks. If there are roots developed at the nick, cut the whole thing off and plant in soil. If not, or the roots are very hair-like, re-wrap, water, and wait another 2-3 weeks.Very easy to do, and fun to watch.
