My computer is not WiFi enabled, but I have a WiFi homehub from BT.
The other laptop in the house is WiFi enabled and can pick up the connection, but when I click on the connection name it comes up with an error.
Is this because my computer is not WiFi enabled?

dont worry,i have exactly the same set up as you,a bt home hub with a wireless connection
when connecting to the home hub do not use any of the software that is supplied with the laptop for wireless conectivity, just insert the bt total broadband disc and follow the set up and install the laptop,it will only come up as a wireless device
before you do this though go to my computer and right click and then in system properties go to hardware and then device manager, then expand the entry for network adapters and look to see if your wirless adapter is configured properly,if not insert the wifi installation cd that came with the laptop and install the drivers to enable the wi-fi connection
once the total broadband is installed and also the wifi is correctly configured just click on the icon in the task bar)red sheild with white cross on it),this is the bt wireless connection manager and a window will appear with all avalible wireless connections, you will see yours ,and your hubs id number will be their(you will find your hubs id on the back of the hub, were you will also find the w.e.p(wirless encryption protocol)key
the w.e.p key is the number you need to enter any time you want to install a wireless connection,it consists of one letter and 9 numbers, and is unique to your hub, this is were you may be going wrong,so look on the back of the hub and note down the w.e.p key and keep it to hand for reference
so make sure 1. you have installed your bt total broadband disc(your w.e.p key will be required here) 2. your network connection is enabled in device manager 3.you have your w.e.p key to hand incase you need it again
wireless networking can be a pain sometimes as certain external factors such as mobile phones, microwaves and even cb radio can all affect your quality of signal strength
