Nope, it doesn't have to be a dozen.

Actually, there is a language to flowers - different ones, and different colors of those flowers, have different meanings.

Be original and pick a bouquet based on the meanings of the flowers in it. Oh, and write it down for them.

Here's the meanings:

You are not obliged to buy any particular type or quantity of flowers or even flowers for that matter.

If you ever watched the price of roses, you would be amazed at the % of mark-up that goes on from the end of January until shortly after Valentine's Day. If you bought the same quality of roses in say June as you were to in February, you would be paying about 1/4 to 1/3 for the same amount.

I suggest that a nice hand-made card with the lace doily and hand written sentiment inside would be worth SO much more than dead flowers.

Flowers are dead, get a plant, a book.

Find out what her favorite flower is and what her favorite color is in that type of flower. Its more personal that way. Almost everyone gets red roses for Valentine's Day.
With me, I like roses, but I like peach ones, not red or pink, and I love tulips, but only pink tulips. All girls are different. Maybe ask one of her friends or her mom to see what her fav is so that you can surprise her and show her how thoughtful you were to find out this info on your own...

Find out her favorite flower or color- and do that.
If you don't know or can't ask- red roses as traditional as it is
it happens to be the most romantic and sweet. You can do a dozen- its a good number and fills the boquett.
It's had to imagine any woman not appreciating the sweet classin red rose.

My fave flower is a tulip-you can buy them cut and in a vase or live so she will be able to keep them longer. And tulips run in the same price range as roses. If youwant to do roses-then by all means do, you can make it unique by mixing colors (like 2 red, 2 pink, 2 white) and it doesn't have to be any set number. I don't think she will count them out-she will look at them and be amazed by the thought!

Orchids!! They last longer than roses. Any flower but roses or carnations would be considered unique. And no it doesn't have to be a dozen. Orchids are larger flowers so just a few of those would be nice.

Give her one flower for each year or month you have been together. It doesn't have to be a dozen. What's her favorite flower?
