That is the general idea. You might need to know your ISP settings to have the Wireless router recognize your Internet Provider. ALso make sure that your Laptop has a wireless card installed. I have setup my system without too much of a problem. Just had to set the proper settings in Control panel.

Try right click on network icon in tray and click repair. If this doesn't work your modem or router may not be configged properly. Linksys router would have a button on front for auto config button should say cisco systems. unplug router 1/2 minute, plug back in, wait for lights, press button. If the internet light does not come on check connection to modem
O.K. go to > control panel - network connections - your highspeed connection - right click select properties, click internet protocol - click properties - under general tab be sure auto IP and auto DNS are both checked, if not check and wait to obtain IP.If these are already checked update again.

Little or no connectivity means that the router is either not working, or you are too far away from it. Your laptop should pick up the Mac IP from your router automatically.

Change the channel for your basic wireless settings. Refer to the company who made your router website. It will assest too.

Is this router secured with a WEP key? If it is that might be your problem. Otherwise i would reset the router and start over.

Don't worry, it sounds to me like you haven't taken the download cd out of the CD drive. If you have then I would suggest uninstalling and reinstalling the software.
