I found an ad in the classifieds in the newspaper for positions for Nursing Students yesterday that would be perfect for me! In the ad, it listed two HR managers along with their telephone numbers and email addresses. I emailed both of them this morning and now am wondering if it would have been better to call. Would it be ok for me to call even though I emailed them this morning? Or should I just wait for them to contact me? Thanks for any input!

It is an excellent idea to follow-up your e-mail with a call. The message you're giving is you are definitely interested in the position, and it will put you in the forefront of their minds. You are displaying positive qualities right away, and that will speak volumes for you. How many others are probably thinking along the same lines as yourself? It's a competitive world, and "The early bird gets the worm." Good luck, and don't forget to smile!

Did you include a resume with that email? If not, I would suggest you email them again with a resume. If you did, then I would wait at least 24 hours. Not knowing what city you're in, they might be just getting a lot of responses. Usually they'll collect all the resumes and then go through them and call back those most qualified for an interview. I guarantee you that anyone that calls them will be told to email or fax a resume.

Good luck and try to be patient.

My first suggestion is to wait one day. If the article gave you email addresses then you have to assume that they will be checking those often and get back to them individually. I would consider calling them tomorrow to verify receipt of your email, also don't forget when possible flag your emails so you will know when they actually open your email, you need to give them a chance to get back to your email (reading the emails are not the only thing they have to do today). When you call tomorrow emphasize your interest in the job and offer additional info on your experience, etc. then.

Good Luck,

Hi there,

Since you have emailed two of them already, you should wait. They will probably be getting a lot of emails and need time to sort them out. You don't want to let eagerness become harassing. If you haven't heard in a day or two, they you can call one of them to check that they received your application. As a recruiter, I can tell you, we get busy and it takes time to respond. Just because you aren't hearing back doesn't mean everyone else is. It may just mean they are waiting to review all the resumes and call back their finalists. In this day in age, email is usually the number one place we get applications, so don't worry that you didn't call. Just don't do both in the same day. Good luck.

If I were you I would wait a day or two, then call one of them to make sure they got the e-mail. That gives them time to look over the message you sent and maybe when you call they will schedule you for an interview. It would also give you time to think of any questions you might have about the job and you could ask when you call.

CALL THEM!!! Never rely on email. It cannot show enthusiasm and cannot really provide a first impression. Start your phone call off with, I left an email with you this morning but wanted to call and introduce myself". I would follow up every couple of days. Daily becomes annoying, every other day show interest and drive. Good luck!!

I think it would be ok to call. Just tell them you are very interested in the job and want to follow up on an email sent earlier.
