Try using the typical color theme (purple, gold, and green.) The colors each stand for something (luck, prosperity, etc..) and also get some beads....hang them around like streamers! :) I would use Beads, doubloons, and other small party favors that are traditionally thrown off of floats during the parades.

Also, you could pick up a mixed cd of some jazz and mardi gras music to get things going in the lively upbeat spirit...

i know you said you had the food covered, but don't forget the king cake! :) And remember whoever gets the baby gets good luck, and also has to bring the cake the next time! :)

and you could also make mini muffalatta sandwiches for appetizers.

I think anything you do will turn out nice as long as you stick with the bright and flashy color theme, and use beads and scatter some coins/doubloons around.

as for costumes, you could use traditional ideas like feather boas, masks, and lots of colorul fancy stuff, or you could just dress as anything. people dress up as anything from jesters to royalty to funny things and creatures- and themes.. it's just like halloween, so you would be pretty open as to what you wanted to be.

it sounds really fun, and i hope you all have fun! what a cool idea.

let the good times roll! :)

We are learning about Mardi Gras in french class. Try making some masks with feathers on them. Also make sure you use the typical green and purple Mardi Gras colors. You can always try googling party ideas.
