A beta writer is one who writes for the beta version (the test version) of something, whether it be a video game or computer game or for something like a newsmagazine online or who writes a bank's online banking software.

Alpha is the original version, the concept version of something. Beta is the later version, the test version, or the first version put into real practice with real users.

If something is downloadable and has a writer in it (it can be downloaded, saved and altered, then written or saved to the disk in that new form), or it is the test version of it being downloaded, it may be a called a beta writer.

The names Alpha and Beta are the two first letters in the Greek alphabet and alpha, of course, comes before beta.

a beta writer goes over what you have written and makes sure everything is spelled correctly and makes sense, or they can write further in what you have written. say you have writers block and can't think of how to continue what you have written, they can continue the story and help you get through the block.
